Fishing & Crabbing in Sea Pines

Young boy fishing in the Sea Pines Forest Preserve

Sea Pines is home to more than 50 lakes and lagoons, providing many places to cast your line. Freshwater angling reels in crappy, bass, bream and catfish in Lake Mary and Lake Joe, located in the heart of the Forest Preserve.

Our brackish water creeks and lagoons produce sea trout, flounder and red drum (spotail bass). Or try your hand at catching our prized blue crabs at Braddock Cove near South Beach. The Sea Pines Plantation Fishing Regulations provides information on persons authorized to fish, controls over fishing and catch limits.

A fishing permit is required to fish and crab the lakes, lagoons and creeks in Sea Pines. To obtain a permit free of charge, drop by the Sea Pines Security Office located in the Community Services Associates Building at 175 Greenwood Drive. To contact the Sea Pines Security Office directly, call 843-671-7170.

Shore Fishing

Shore fishing along our beautiful beach can be a very enjoyable experience. All beaches on Hilton Head Island are open to the public and do not require a South Carolina fishing license. Using a surf rod with a 30-pound test line, your best bet for catching dinner will be found on the most southern tip of the Island and along the Calibogue Sound. From here you can view stunning sunsets across the water.

Inshore Fishing

Inshore Fishing in the tidal creeks around Hilton Head Island

For Inshore fishing on your own in the Hilton Head and Beaufort area we recommend purchasing Inshore Fishing Chart (#93F). This chart has complete Inshore coverage detailing all the backwater creeks, oyster rakes and mud flats from Coosaw River to Hilton Head and Daufuskie Island and showing the best places to catch: Cobia, Redfish, Trout, Mackerel, Flounder, Sharks and Tarpon. A complete list of all of the area Boat Ramps with GPS Coordinates is included with information from the NOAA Charts: 11512, 11513, 11516 and 11517.

If you are looking to have an exceptionally wonderful time with inshore light tackle or fly fishing we suggest a chartered fishing trip with Capt. Brian Vaughn. For more information please visit his website, Off The Hook Charters.

Offshore Fishing

To real in big fish from the deep waters, including the Gulf Stream, you’ll want to charter a boat to go offshore fishing. Please visit the Fishing Charter section of our website for information on charter boats operating out of Harbor Town and South Beach marinas.
